![]() ![]() And then there’s the “Scope” view which gives a visual oscilloscope style readout on every signal path. A “Plug-info” view adds descriptions, information and values to all the in/out ports. A “normal” layout and wiring view shows your nodes with wired connections. There are 3 views within the main designer window of Alpha Forever. There are nodes categories such as logic, controllers, wiring, dynamics, reverb, filters, mixers, oscillators and so on and you can select nodes from within those categories as the building blocks of the sound you are designing. Alpha Forever acts as an editor and manager of these nodes. ![]() It appears as a box with inputs and outputs and controls. A node is a small device that processes or generates signals. What sorts of synthesis is being used? How does it work? What sorts of sounds can it produce? These are the sorts of questions that spring to mind.ĭigging into the manual we discover that it’s all about nodes. That seems to be it – it’s a very strange way to describe a modular sound design instrument. Jerry Smith, Audulus sound designer Audulus 4 is available now as a free download on the Mac and iPad App Stores. You can build advanced modules in Audulus without needing to know programming languages such as C++. It has a flexible user interface and can be zoomed all over the place. Audulus is unique in seamlessly combining Eurorack-style patching with lower level signal graphs. They say how the interface is like playing an instrument more than programming and you can play and control them as you build them. Maybe NI was doing bad financially and was focusing on the wrong things, so the accountants of the new owners had everyone take a good look at a few terrifying spreadsheets, so they ditched everything which was not making money immediately and plan to come back to actual innovation later. So do we know what it is yet? Well, in terms of features they talk about the sound quality being uncompromising. While sound can be objective, the features draw a line between Reaktor 6 and Reason+. However, we don't know what is actually happening behind the scenes. And absolutely I will have to continue using Reaktor for designing, since to design, you need to be able to make quick easy changes to test ideas and any coding language like Juce will never be as good for that. Sure, all 3 can emulate modular synths, but emulating modular synths is just one of the many, many, many, many possible ways to use Reaktor. Just got Reaktor under control and now I have to learn something new. Maybe NI was doing bad financially and was focusing on the wrong things, so the accountants of the new owners had everyone take a good look at a few terrifying spreadsheets, so they ditched everything which was not making money immediately and plan to come back to actual innovation later. I'm not trying to take anything away from VCV or Softube because they are good tools, but Reaktor really isn't in the same class as VCV or Softube. It's short-term turnover above strategic innovation and I think it's no coincidence that it happens when the founding engineers and visionaries left. They found a few cash cows (play series, expansions) which are not contributing to improving the actual platforms NI established over the years (Kontakt, Maschine, Reaktor). Thanks main irritation was with the former thread title which explicitly stated there had been an EOL announcement on the NI forums which actually had me go over there, because I thought I had missed something.Īpart from that I am also very skeptical of how NI is doing ATM. ![]()
